Month of May

It has been nearly a month since I plonked my feet firmly here in Southern France. It has been a month of strong sun, the windiest wind you could imagine and boughts of rain that have sent our tent floating.
Creating has been limited to a bonsai style of pruning for our grape vines and not much else.
The summerschools at The University College Falmouth are in the offing with spaces still available for those who wish to learn to printed textiles. A fantastic, fast paced and fun filled introduction to printed textile design, great if it is something you fancy trying before embarking further in your own studio practice, or for those looking at a university level course of study.. and finally for this month, yesturday saw my introduction to the wonderful lady Jane Hendriques, who lives down the road from me and is going to very kindly introduce me to the small world of printmaking here. We ate a wonderful lunch in her garden that overlooks the building where Picasso and Bracque developed their ideas regarding cubism, and then on to the lake for a quick dip. She already feels like a long time friend and I think there are a whole host of possible furutre collaborations that may be in the offing..
It has been a busy month, I am content.
Update to follow summerschools...

Ready ..Set ..Go........

It has all been a bit slow and steady here for the past few months...too much work to think about much else and no time to be making, throw in a house move and now a country move and it doesn't make for a very creative environment..

I have got some work back at South West Crafts and a small selection at my shop on Etsy..

Back to living at my mums temporarily, while our new/very old landrover is repaired by Chris, and we'll be off, to start fresh in Sunny Southern France...I say sunny, but didn't quite realise how cold it gets there in Winter!!...It will hopefully be sunny by the time we arrive...

punch kick I'm not so quick

Not about me or printing or textiles or visual art...but as we stood in the freezing rain at the end of the peoples march in hyde park a voice came over the speakers and sent chills up my spine. His name is Daby Toure and his music is here..If I can embed it I will, but otherwise check it out now...guarantee you will love it...Bibou and kebaluso are my favorite!

March 2008

It has been a busy yet stagnant few months for this blog.

I am continually amazed how much time children take up and am awed by the mums out there who blog on a regular or even daily basis....and the children I have been around aren't even mine!

I received an invitation last week for an Exhibition by Sam Hall at the Lemon Street Gallery and although I won't be making it I thought I'd post an image...His work has inspired me for several years and I now wish I had bought a piece when I had a chance as I am sure that they are beyond my price range.

His work is a sophisticated cross between the complicated craft of ceramics and innovative skill of painting, the surface of each piece is raised and distressed through the use of multiple layers of glaze and coloured slip which react with eachother and differently at fired temperatures.

I hope you like them as much as me! Check out Lemon Street Gallery for better images.
